Some of us have gone through a painful time of old

486 processors , 3.5 "diskettes, no graphical environment (pure console) and many viruses (for the open and vulnerable DOS interrupt vector) without mentioning that it was a free operating system. It was time also of great games, I regret to say , con sumed long time that I should be studying more
calculation. Just to mention a few: Doom II, X-COM
,
Star Control 2,
TIE Fighter
, WarCra
ft , Wolfenstein and waaaaay more. Most of these games (if they have them) and do not work on Windoze for many years. It was for this that a group of individuals took on the task of creating a DOS environment emulator to run programs designed for this environment. It's free and open source (Open Source). This magnificent emulator called DOSBox . muliplataforma is also, and may be downloaded and installed on different operating systems. There are versions for Windoze, but the best of all is that there are for different distribution is GNU / Linux. In my case, as I use Ubuntu, just go to the Applications menu , then Add / Remove

, there is look for the option of "emulator DOSBox", mark you want to install, click on Apply Changes
and that's it.
When you run DOSBox, it will open a black console with a gray letter, as the old DOS. But rather than be a prompt way C: \\>
, there is one saying
Z: \\> . Before you can play any game, you need to mount the folder where the games are like a disk drive. To achieve this we use the command MOUNT , followed by the letter that you want to name the unit (usually use the letter J for "Games"), and finally the path where the folder you want to mount. For example, once you run DOSBox in Ubuntu, type the following command: mount j / host / Games If use Windoze, write something like: mount
j C : \\ Games
Then
is only a matter of happen to the newly mounted drive using the command:
J: then enter the folder where the game cd folder And finally run the program or file . exe you want.
The
DOSBox has support hardware to emulate much of that time, many sound cards and for many video modes. And from A to Z there are many games that are officially supported
. We must take into account that many of these games and are considered abandonware
by their manufacturers, so it can be downloaded without network problems (but beware of viruses, download from trusted sources).
Finally, I congratulate the team of DOSBox (Qbix, Harekiet, Fanskapet and Finster) for this excellent project.
And with your permission, I will get to play.
"The past has its codes and customs." Socrates
Note: I know I will say that the DOS era games were not open source. My intention is to promote the use of DOSBox, as this if you have GPL license. Although I think the whole sofgüer should be free, I think we can sin once lost a bit and play a juegillo vacilón for old times sake.
and that's it.
